International Journal of Sport Management, Recreation & Tourism , 2011,
Abstract: Present study tested the validity of involvement scale (Kyle et al., 2004), examined differences according demographic characteristics and investigated possible relationships between involvement and attitudinal loyalty in context of recreational swimming. Three hundred and forty nine participants (61.9% females) from a major swimming sport center in northern Greece, completed the three dimensional involvement model of Kyle’s et al (2004), and Armitage & Conner’s (1999) attitudinal loyalty’s instrument. Demographics of the sample and frequency of participation were also recorded. The results indicated high differences (p<.01) between dimensions of involvement and the frequency of participation levels supporting the predictive validity of the scale. Female subgroup and married subgroup scored significantly higher in all involvement dimensions (attraction, centrality, self-expression) than males and singles respectively. Significant statistical differences existed also between involvement dimensions and age subgroups. Finally, involvement concept only partially (centrality, β=.13 and attraction, β=.47 dimensions) predicted swimmers loyalty (p<.001). Marketing implications are discussed toward the development of appropriate promotion strategies from sport managers toward overcoming swimmer’s needs and broadening participants net.

Journal of Electromagnetic Analysis and Applications (JEMAA) , 2011, DOI: 10.4236/jemaa.2011.37047
Abstract: The DVB-T (Digital Video Broadcasting—Terrestrial) standard is being deployed in many parts of the world for digital broadcasting services, providing a variety of features extending the capabilities of the older analog ones. In this paper, a two-stage low noise amplifier (LNA) is designed for use with the DVB-T standard. The design is employed based on microstrip. The microwave design meets all the specifications required, achieving input and output return loss below ?10 dB, high gain of 35 dB and high linearity. Low noise figure of 1.3 dB is achieved with the use of pHEMT transistor technology.
Meaning in Life, Psychological Well-Being and Depressive Symptomatology: A Comparative Study  [PDF]
George Kleftaras, Evangelia Psarra
Psychology (PSYCH) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/psych.2012.34048
Abstract: The purpose of the present study was to examine the relationship of meaning in life and its dimensions to depression and general psychological health, as well as the differences concerning the meaning of life among individuals with low, moderate and high depressive symptomatology. A sample of 401 newly recruited young men for their national service in the navy, completed four questionnaires on meaning in life, depressive symptomatology, psychological health and socio-demographic factors. Significant associations were found between meaning in life and depressive symptoms. As expected, subjects with higher life meaning were found to have lower depressive symptomatology, while subjects with higher depression scores were found to have a lower sense of meaning in life. However, concerning the meaning in life dimensions, only the “contentedness with life” and the “goal achievement” significantly differentiated individuals of low, moderate and high depressive symptomatology. Furthermore, statistical significant correlations were found between meaning in life and the four dimensions of general health. In the same vein, the comparison between individuals with the lower and the higher meaning of life has shown that the two groups differ significantly with regards to psychological health: those with higher meaning of life present a better psychological health. Finally, being married or involved in a romantic relationship, as well as participation in social activities are proven to be significant sources of meaning. These findings point to a definite relationship of meaning in life with depression and psychological health. Implications for psychotherapy and counselling are discussed.
The Imaginary Audience and the Personal Fable: A Test of Elkind’s Theory of Adolescent Egocentrism  [PDF]
Evangelia P. Galanaki
Psychology (PSYCH) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/psych.2012.36065
Abstract: The aim of this research was to test empirically Elkind’s (1967, 1970, 1978) Piagetian theoretical formulation for the developmental nature of adolescent egocentrism. The contribution of this study is threefold because it includes: 1) Pubertal development (with a distinction between status and timing), which has been systematically ignored by other investigators; 2) a broad age range (11 - 18 year-old adolescents); and 3) a variety of manifestations and dimensions of egocentrism. The association of the two main forms of adolescent egocentrism—the imaginary audience and the personal fable—with age, gender, pubertal development, and formal operational thought was investigated. Participants were 314 adolescents who completed the Physical Development Scale (Petersen, Crockett, Richards, & Boxer, 1988), a battery of cognitive tasks (Demetriou, Efklides, & Platsidou, 1993), the Imaginary Audience Scale (Elkind & Bowen, 1979), the New Imaginary Audience Scale (Lapsley, Fitzgerald, Rice, & Jackson, 1989), the Personal Fable Scale (Elkind, personal communication, August 10, 1993), and the New Personal Fable Scale (Lapsley et al., 1989). Findings provided partial support for Elkind’s hypothesis. Only the imaginary audience in the form of self-consciousness was associated with grade. Systematic gender differences emerged for several dimensions of imaginary audience and personal fable. For only a few dimensions of imaginary audience and personal fable the expected associations with pubertal and cognitive development, as well as interesting interaction effects, were found. Results are discussed in terms of their implications for Elkind’s theory and for alternative interpretations of imaginary audience and personal fable.
An X-Band Low Noise Amplifier Design for Marine Navigation Radars  [PDF]
Christina Lessi, Evangelia Karagianni
Int'l J. of Communications, Network and System Sciences (IJCNS) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/ijcns.2014.73009
Abstract:

In this paper, the design of a 9.1 GHz Low Noise Amplifier (LNA) of a RADAR receiver that is used in the Navy is presented. For the design of the LNA, we used GaAs Field-Effect Transistors (FETs) from Agilent ADS component library. In order to keep the cost of the circuit in low prices and the performance high, we design a two-stage LNA.

Trophic State Evaluation of a Large Mediterranean Lake Utilizing Abiotic and Biotic Elements  [PDF]
George Kehayias, Evangelia Doulka
Journal of Environmental Protection (JEP) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/jep.2014.51003
Abstract:

The trophic state of a freshwater ecosystem reflects its environmental quality. This is why several trophic indicators have been developed for such water bodies based on chemical, physical and biological parameters. Apart from that, there are several biotic elements which can be used in accessing the environmental condition of a freshwater ecosystem. Zooplankton organisms are important elements of the structure and function of lakes and are considered useful indicators of alterations in their trophic dynamics and ecological state related to changes in nutrient loading and climate. In accordance to the above, the present study is an attempt to assess the trophic condition of the largest lake in Greece (Lake Trichonis) through the investigation of the physicochemical elements, along with the biotic indications provided by a three-year study of the lake’s zooplankton. The present results, compared with previous studies conducted between 15 and 25 years before, showed that there was an increase in the maximum values of the concentrations of chlorophyll-α and nutrients, while there was a decrease in water transparency. The implementation of Carslon’s trophic state index (TSI) revealed that Lake Trichonis still remains an oligo-to mesotrophic ecosystem as it was in the past. However, although the zooplankton investigation showed several features that are common in oligotrophic lakes, there are certain eutrophic characteristics of the zooplankton community (e.g. abundance variation pattern, indicator species, seasonal succession of cladocerans) pointing out a different state of the ecosystem in comparison to the past. In conclusion, the use of a biotic element like zooplankton revealed that Lake Trichonis is experiencing a transitional condition towards the eutrophic state and points out the necessity for constant inspection and monitoring of this ecosystem.

From Literature to Alternate Reality Games: Prerequisites, Criteria, and Limitations of a Young Adult Novel’s Transformational Design for Educational Purposes  [PDF]
Evangelia Moula, Konstantinos Malafantis
Advances in Literary Study (ALS) , 2019, DOI: 10.4236/als.2019.74014
Abstract: This study presents the process of the transformational design of a young adult novel into an alternate reality game (ARG) for educational purposes, creating this way, an affinity space for students. Since one of the primary objectives of literature’s curriculum is the cultivation of young people’s reading for pleasure disposition—whose rate is declining—such a project could be a challenge and at the same time could open up a potential prospect of enhancing the positive response of young people towards literature. At the same time, the project supports a multidimensional approach to the literary phenomenon as a means of promoting a wide range of learning goals. The contribution of this venture is that although ARGs have been used in the educational field before, there is no evidence for such a transformational process in the corresponding literature. Design issues, the main characteristics of the ARGs, the criteria and the motivational factors of successful ARGs, as well as the inherent limitations of such a project. The project was applied to the Greek young adult novel: Leros’ Code by Kostas Stoforos (Stoforos, 2016) and the derivative ARG was implemented during the 2018-19 school year in secondary education students in Rhodes, Greece as part of a postdoctoral research (ongoing). The whole project aimed to examine how an ARG could be compatible with the literary curriculum and the teaching mechanics and even more, how it could promote collaborative learning and literacy practices of the 21 st century. The data collection and processing will take place within the ensuing months, soon after which, we will be able to announce our final conclusions.
Rethinking Associations between Distal Factors and Learning: Attachment, Approaches to Learning and the Mediating Role of Academic Emotions  [PDF]
Christos Rentzios, Evangelia Karagiannopoulou
Psychology (PSYCH) , 2021, DOI: 10.4236/psych.2021.126055
Abstract: The present study belongs to a new strand of research in learning in higher education focusing on distal and emotional factors that contribute to learning. The purpose of the study was to explore the mediating role of academic emotions in the relationship between adult attachment styles and approaches to learning. The sample consists of 527 Greek university students (72 were men and 455 were women) attending a fourth-year full degree program. They completed the following questionnaires: The Experiences in Close Relationships-Relationship Structure Questionnaire, the Achievement Emotions Questionnaire, and the Approaches to Learning and Studying Inventory. Results revealed the mediating role of academic emotions in the relationship between both types of attachment and approaches to learning. Avoidant and anxious individuals seem to keep the same pattern of behavior in their studying as they do in their interpersonal relationships. It is suggested that attachment can function as an innate emotion regulation system that modulates students’ emotions. Findings are discussed in the context of recent literature. Future implications for higher education students regarding close relationships are also discussed.

Psychology (PSYCH) , 2020, DOI: 10.4236/psych.2020.119088
Abstract: This study presents the factor structure underlying Tacit Knowledge Inventory for High School Teachers (TKI-HS) which constitutes an informative measure for the assessment of experienced-based tacit knowledge of Greek secondary school teachers, as well as the effect of the teaching experience factor on teachers’ preferred strategies for their workplace interactions. The aim of this study was to provide an insight into the factor structure underlying this instrument in a Greek context, as the structure of its factors has only been assessed in a limited European context. The sample consisted of 279 high-school teachers, 83 men (29.7%) and 196 women (70.3%) who varied in the amount of teaching experience, ranging from 1 to 19 years. The participants completed a Greek version of the TKI-HS inventory consisting of 11 scenarios, each of which provides seven strategies as a framework for evaluating teachers’ responses to potentially challenging social situations. Confirmatory factor analyses verified the single-factor structure of each of the seven strategies, which were included in each of the 11 scenarios of the Greek version of the TKI-HS inventory, confirming, in total, a slightly different structure of the Greek version of the TKI-HS Inventory from the one suggested by the inventory designers. Teaching experience has been found to have a small effect on the respondents’ choice of tacit knowledge

To Vima tou Asklipiou , 2013,
Abstract: The arteriovenous fistula (AVF) is the most frequent form of vascular access for patients undergoing haemodialysis because it ensures good quality of dialysis and reduce haemodialysis mortality. For this reason, the nephrology nurse plays an important role in the appropriate care of fistula with a view to promoting the longevity and prevention of complications. Purpose: The purpose of this review was to investigate the role of Nephrology nurse in the appropriate care of fistula, promoting longevity and reducing complications, based on scientific data and international guidelines. Material-Method: The methodology followed in this review relied on literatures reviews and investigative studies, which were carried out during the period 2000-2012 and international (Medline, PubMed, Cinahl) and Greek databases (Iatrotek) on the care and management of fistula in people undergoing chronic haemodialysis. Key-words were used: Arteriovenous fistula, cannulation techniques fistula, guidelines, vascular access, role of nurse. Results: The arteriovenous fistula (AVF) is the life line for patients undergoing haemodialysis. For this reason, the appropriate care of fistula and its maintenance in a good condition plays an important role for patient s life. Conclusions: Nephrology nurse has a major role in the proper management of the fistula and the education of the patient. Additionally, there is a need for cooperation between all the members of the multidisciplinary team, which includes dialysis nurse, nefrologist, access surgeon, and radiologist, for the broader assessment of fistula and the prevention and timely treatment of any complications.
